An important aspect of College life is the leadership opportunities offered to senior students. Each year around 30 young men are appointed to the position of Prefect. They must first self-nominate and then be endorsed by a vote of Year 12s, Year 13s and the Staff. From this group the Head Prefect, Deputy Head Prefect/s, Sports Captain, Arts Captain, Academic Captain and Community Leader are appointed. Further opportunities are available to senior boys within their Houses and indeed all of Year 13 are issued with the challenge to be role models and ‘good men’.
The Prefects have long been both the advocates of the students and the eyes and ears of the staff. They are involved in many community events such as Anzac Day, parent teacher nights, open and option evenings as well as in House committees such as Charities, Sports, Arts, and Academic as well as the Ball. Many are leaders in sports teams, in the arts and in the classroom and the office they hold gives them an insight into what it is like to help others and hopefully sets them on a path of service that they will carry into adulthood.
