Theatre at Tauranga Boys' College offers something for every performer — from major annual productions and Shakespearean drama to fast-paced Theatre Sports for those who love to test their improvisational skills. These opportunities build confidence, creativity, and teamwork, both on stage and behind the scenes.
PRODUCTION
The annual Tauranga Boys’ College and Tauranga Girls’ College production is a major highlight of our Arts calendar, celebrating student talent both on stage and behind the scenes. In 2025, we returned to Baycourt with a modern retelling of Cinderella, which ran from May 7–10. Looking ahead, Tauranga Boys' College will proudly present Footloose: The Musical in our very own Graham Young Youth Theatre. These productions offer students the opportunity to build performance skills, grow in confidence, and experience the excitement of live theatre. We welcome all levels of experience and encourage the community to support and enjoy the performing arts!
Auditions for next year's production of Footloose: The Musical on the 18th and 19th of October.
Audition bookings are now open.
SHAKESPEARE
Each year, Tauranga Boys’ College enters the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Regional Shakespeare Festival (formerly known as Sheilah Winn), competing against other Bay of Plenty schools for a spot at the National Festival. Students perform either 5 or 15 minute scenes, directed by themselves or a teacher. These performances also serve as the Tauranga Boys’ College entry for the Super 8 Arts & Cultural Festival. In past years, our students have not only reached the national level but have also been selected for the SGCNZ Young Shakespeare Company, performing on the prestigious stage of London’s Globe Theatre.
THEATRE SPORTS
Theatre Sports Team: Improvisation Innovators, Performance Pioneers, Acting Aces!
The Theatre Sports Team meets weekly to play fast-paced, high-energy drama games, where every scene is completely improvised on the spot. In 2025, the team is led by the talented duo Saul Keen and Tommy Shorter. Tauranga Boys’ College has a proud legacy in theatre sports, with the senior team dominating the Super 8 competition, holding a winning streak for eight consecutive years! Ready to think on your feet, bring bold characters to life, and have a blast? Keen to be part of it? Contact Mr. Evison to get involved.
