RUGBY

COMPETITIONS

Most of our TBC Rugby teams play in competitions against School teams from across the Bay of Plenty and Taupo. This means that some travel is required during the season and parental support with this is greatly appreciated.

In 2024 we had 12 teams playing in a range of different competitions outlined below.

  • 1st XV - Play traditional fixtures, Super 8 and National Top 4.
  • 2nd XV - Play traditional fixtures, 5 weeks of BOPSS Division 1, then Super 8.

TRAINING

In general, all teams train after school on Nicholson Field (our main school field at TBC). Junior teams train on Monday and Wednesday while Senior teams train on Tuesday and Thursday. The expectation is that our boys are changed and ready to train at 3.30pm and trainings should finish at approximately 4.45pm depending on the coaches.

UNIFORM

Game Day Uniform

The expectation for the players is that they travel to and from games in their full TBC School uniform. This is to ensure that we look the part on arrival and represent the college well by looking sharp (as opposed to a motley crew in mufti).

Aftermatch Functions and Expectations

When playing in the BOPSS competitions, the only grades who are expected to provide an aftermatch are 1st XV Divisions 1 and 2. This includes our 2nd XV, 3rd XV and U16 teams, and aftermatches are compulsory for all games unless prior arrangements have been organised with your opposition.

Aftermatch functions are not expected for any other grade.

TBC Rugby Playing uniforms

All teams have jerseys supplied, but players need to get their own shorts and socks from our TBC uniform shop at school. TBC Rugby socks are $20 and TBC Rugby shorts are available for $35.

FEE STRUCTURE

  • This fee helps to cover the cost of playing and training equipment, playing jerseys, first aid and medical supplies.
  • All U14 Players will also receive a TBC Rugby Training shirt once they have paid their fees.
  • The U14 season fee is $150 (includes a training shirt).
  • The season fee for all other players is $120 without a training shirt, or $150 with a training shirt (Optional for players other than U14).
  • Traditional fixtures and tournaments are extra on top of this Season fee.

Parents have the following options to organise this fee:

  • All Sports (and School) fees can be paid via internet banking. Just log in to the Tauranga Boys’ College parent portal (www.tbc.school.nz) and go to ‘Accounts & Payments’’.
  • Pay at the main office at Tauranga Boys’ College either with cash or Eftpos.
  • Email [email protected]  and we can organise an alternative payment method through our Rugby Participation fund and/or weekly payments of $5.

One of these options needs to be done before Friday 10 May otherwise the player can not take the field until it is done. (i.e. “no pay = no play”).
