COMPETITIONS
The Tauranga Boys' College Motocross team competes in two different events, Motocross and Moto-Cross Country. Motocross is on track racing where some previous race experience is recommended, while Moto-Cross Country is long distance riding on less permanent tracks, often a good place for riders new to the sport to start out.
Every year the team competes at whatever schools events are available. These are subject to change, however, normal events include:
- The Rotorua Schools Challenge
- The Tauranga Motorcycle Club Secondary Schools Challenge at TECT Park.
- The Waikato Schools MX Challenge at Patetonga Motorcycle Club
- The South Waikato School MX Challenge in Tokoroa
- The Northland School MX Challenge in Whangarei
- The Bay of Plenty Inter Schools MX at Awakaponga
Moto-Cross Country events include:
- The Cambridge Cross Country in Cambridge
- The North Island Secondary Schools Cross Country event in Taikorea
The classes for each event stay pretty much the same. The boys can compete in the following classes:
- 12-16yrs 85/150f
- 12-14yrs 125/250f
- 85cc 12-14yrs Competitive
- 125cc 15-19 Competitive
- 15-19yrs 250f Competitive
- 125/25f Novice
- 85/150f Novice
TRAINING
There is no formal trainings for the team though the community is very supportive and the lads often ride together at other Motocross events in the weekend.
UNIFORM
The motocross team is awesome, we love our sport and get absolutely get stuck in, however, unfortunately it is not without it's costs. Students MUST have their own bike which meets the riding regulations and parents or caregivers MUST attend every event that their son is riding in. Motocross is dangerous and accidents do happen.
Team gear - riding shirts and training tops are provided for the team every year thanks to our sponsors. Black riding trousers are expected. We have a deal with MAKZ gear for Fox Riding Trousers. Boys are expected to wear track suit trousers and hoodies purchased from the uniform shop.
Safety gear - helmets, boots and other protective gear are required and must be provided by the boys themselves.
All boys riding for the school team should be competing in team gear and must wear school gear for prize givings and podiums.
FEE STRUCTURE
Cost for the year is $80 to cover consumables and riding gear.
Students are responsible for all registration costs for events. On average events cost $70 to $80 as entry fees.
