FOOTBALL

COMPETITIONS

  • Baywide Youth Leagues
  • Inter-school Exchanges
  • NISS Champs
  • NZSS Champs
  • Super 8

The 1st XI  runs separately from our senior competitive teams on a Saturday and plays a number of inter-school fixtures throughout the year.

Our senior teams will continue in the Baywide Youth Leagues, with the Premier Division on a Wednesday night, and the rest on a Saturday morning. These leagues are for players under the age of nineteen. The league comprises other Bay of Plenty schools' and clubs.

The top junior team - the 16 best in-form Year 9 and Year 10 players that compete for the school - will also have various inter-school fixtures and host the NZSS Hillsdene Trophy which is part of the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Winter Tournament Week held in late August/early September.

Our Year 9 and 10 teams (excluding Junior A) play in the Baywide U14/U15 Grade leagues on a Saturday morning.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

We run two popular intra school football leagues throughout Terms 2 and 3 for seniors and juniors. This is a seven-a-side format with squads no bigger than 10 players. Juniors play on a Wednesday and seniors on a Friday after school. Included in fees for this league will be a personalised, replica shirt with the player's name and selected number on the back to keep, as well as a football and pair of goalkeeper gloves for each team. This is a suitable option for players who do not want to commit to weekend football. However, players can do both if they wish.

TRAINING

Football runs throughout Terms 2 and 3 at Tauranga Boys’ College. There are some pre-season skill sessions in Term 1 for players to attend if they wish. Generally, teams train once a week after school.

UNIFORM

Physical Education uniform or football kit for training. Playing shirts for all the senior and junior Saturday teams are supplied. Players outside the 1st XI play in physical education shorts and Tauranga Boys’ College football socks.

Football boots, shin pads, Physical Education shorts and Tauranga Boys' College football socks are needed.

PARENT HELPERS

Parents interested in helping as coaches or managers, senior and junior teams, can contact the Teacher in Charge. This assistance is essential and greatly appreciated.

REGISTRATIONS

This is done via the Comet website. Existing players should 'roll over' their membership themselves. New players will be provided with a link to register.

FEE STRUCTURE

The fees for Football depends on what level a student is playing.

These charges cover competition fees, referee payments, playing shirts, subsidised van transport and the purchase of additional equipment. This fee also includes a Training/Warm up shirt. 1st XI and Junior A members will have additional charges added to their school account for tournament travel, accommodation and food at a later date.

REFEREE ACADEMY

We are running a Referee Academy where boys have the opportunity to develop their officiating skills and consider refereeing as a viable option to move up in the game. This program is supported by WaiBOP and our in-house qualified referee Mr Orchard. Student referees will be paid to officiate games, starting at intra-school level moving up to officiating at tournaments as they become more competent.
